Post created on March 11, 2010 by Reesie under Food · No Comments »

This is my first ever to bake muffins and it is my first time to ever touch the oven to bake for that matter. LOL. Understandably, I bake the simplest recipe there is – Apple Cinnamon Muffin. And since this is my first time, I have to document it and I have to brag it to you, people! (Pagbigyan niyo na ako, plez!)

The Ingredients.

And oh! Don’t foget the sugar. ;-)

To be honest, I forgot to put the sugar so I had to take each of them out of the liner, put them in the bowl, put sugar and mix. Darn it!

Anyway, while doing the preparation I pre-heat the oven for 375 degrees F.

When done, put the muffin pan and wait ’till the muffins are golden brown. It would be about 20-30 minutes.
And here it is! My yummy muffin!

When I Grow Up I Want To Be Kim Yu-Na

I’ve been following the Winter Olympics lately. I particularly like speed skating (Apolo Ohno I love you!) and figure skating, of course.

Just last night, Kim Yu-Na of South Korea, won the gold medal effortlessly for the woman figure skating. It was Korea’s first gold for figure skating.

Well, her performance looked effortless but the pressure was really high for her. Her country expected her to win and anything less than gold was a mere disappointment for everybody.  She won gold on the 2009 World Championship and she also won various medals for different competitions before that.

Currently, she’s the biggest celebrity in South Korea. Reportedly, she has an income of  $5 million per year from her various endorsements – from sanitary napkins to cell phones to cars.

Her rise of fame is not a surprise given how talented she is and on top on that, how beautiful she is.

So today, I am formally announcing  that when I grow up I want to skate like her. Wish me luck, okay?

As skating is now my new hobby, I guess I’m getting there – there, where Yu-Na is!!!  Wahahaha.Look!  Did you see my move? Yu-Na, beat that!

Those pads really come in handy, I tell you.

Okay, before I embarrassed myself too much all I really wanted to say is “HAPPY WEEKEND, PEEPZ!!!”

Would You Date Your Friend’s Ex?

So let’s talk about that thing called LoVe…

Would you date your friend’s ex boyfriend/girlfriend?

It happened to me before. My friend dated my ex. She was not just my friend, she was my bestfriend.  I wasn’t actually surprised when I found out about them later on since my friend was really open about having a crush on my then-boyfriend.  She would talk about that my then-boyfriend was her crush in grade school! Whehew! Isn’t it odd telling everyone that your bestfriend’s boyfriend was your crush? Back then for me, it wasn’t odd. It was really  nothing to me because I thought she was talking about a thing in the past. Little did I know…

Anyway, what happened?

My bestfriend became his confidante when things weren’t going too well between us. She became sort of like our messenger for we weren’t already talking. The first time I noticed that something was going on was during our graduation.  I wanted to take a picture with my bestfriend and I couldn’t find her. I looked and there she was, taking tons of pictures with my ex-boyfriend! I was actually hurt. Hurt because I thought all along she was on my side – during the break-up process, etc. The pain was still fresh as it was only been a month since we broke up. I was hurt because she valued my ex-boyfriend more than me, her bestfriend.  Perhaps, she was hitting on him already at that time. I really don’t know. Not only it was a heartbreak but my friendship with my bestfriend had also been broken. It was a failure with love and friendship at the same time.

But you know, I was too young then. It was easy to move on. It was just a puppy love but my young heart did love him! Charotz. And I loved her and valued our friendship.

So going back…

College years came and people were telling me that my bestfriend and my ex-boyfriend were already an item. I just shrugged it off. I totally forgot how I felt back then. Sometimes I bumped into them and yes, it felt awkward. So we stopped being bestfriends and I guess it was for the better.

Now, they’re happily married and blessed with one child. I am sincerely happy for them.  Perhaps, I was just an instrument for them to be together, noh? I am just glad that I was part of their lives once upon a time. I believe they’re really meant for each other as I meant for JLC.  Kacharingan!!

I think it’s not wrong to fall in love with your friend’s ex. Yes, it is awkward but you’re not cheating, right?  One thing for sure though when you decide to date your friend’s ex is that you’re ready to forget your friend and that you  value your heart’s desire than him/her. You can’t stay  friend with your friend because admit or not, it feels really awkward.

Now, I will throw the question to you,  given that you’re really attracted to him/ her… would you date your friend’s ex?

Shutter Island

Disclaimer: I have not read the book so this review is mainly based on the movie adaptation.

This is not your typical movie with an easy plot line and a little thought required. Shutter Island blows your mind away, I tell you. The story is thought-provoking; the directing is brilliant; the acting, especially that of DiCaprio, is powerful. This is a must-watch movie.

Shutter Island is a mind bending mystery-thriller film. I was actually uncertain if I should watch it for I really thought that this movie was a horror flick based on the trailers I previously saw. I guess it was marketed that way. Yes it was dark and creepy, but it wasn’t scary. Don’t expect scenes that would make you jump off your seats although there was one near towards the end and that was it! Don’t expect background music that makes you scream. Scorsese, the director, was brilliant by not putting over-the-top creepy music.

Shutter Island is that kind of  movie that will have you enthralled the entire time and will challenge you psychologically. You would have to use your brain cells during and after the movie.   Just like the character of Di Caprio, as an audience, you would have to figure out yourself  what’s real and reel. You can’t help but go through with his psychosis..wondering if he’s really insane or everything was a set up.  I was actually second-guessing if what I was seeing was real or not especially towards the last 30 minutes of the film! After watching, I had to figure out which scenes I saw were real and which ones were hallucinations or delusions of DiCaprio.

Some of the scenes of the movie, especially the part where Di Caprio’s character went to the cells of the inmates, remind me of Silence of the Lambs.  It has a dark style or Gothic gloom on it and this is one of the reasons why the movie is creepy.

Yes, Shutter Island is a complex movie but you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to understand it. It has the most-talked about ending. The ending would left you stunned. It is open for interpretation. It’s up to you how you would decipher the ending especially when DiCaprio’s character said, “Which would be worse, to live as a monster or to die as good man?”. Some may feel that it’s incomplete rather than satisfying. Regardless,  the movie is not just mindbending but entertaining as well. This is that kind of movie that you would have to watch again after knowing the twist and turns  for further clarity.

Now let’s talk about acting. The acting of the majority of the casts was top-notched but I would have to say my darling Leonardo DiCaprio stood out. He is amazing in this movie. You could really feel his intensity and the emotions in his eyes looked real.  We all know that he is a good actor but in this film, he is genius!!!

Once again, Scorsese – the director of The Daparted, Gangs of New York, Cape Fear, Goodfellas – did a awesome job! I really think this movie should win an Oscar. I will be appalled if this movie won’t receive accolades it deserves.

If intellectually stimulating movie is your cup of tea, you must watch Shutter Island. ;-)
