My Dinner with James Script by Tim Fitzharris

INT. FRENCH RESTAURANT, NIGHT
Laura and JAMES, a twenties-something couple, sit at a small
table. The restaurant is elegant with classical music playing
over the quiet murmur of patrons.
LAURA
(wiping her lips with
napkin)
Maybe you left it in your other
jacket.
JAMES
(tapping fork nervously on
table top)
No, no, the money wasn’t in my
wallet; it was in the stock market.
LAURA
Oh.
Well, it’s not going to be easy
getting it back.
IRENE, the waitress, arrives to clear up the table.
IRENE
(gathering up plates and
utensils)
Can I get you something for
dessert?
LAURA
None for me. I’m stuffed. Excuse
me.
Laura rises and heads for the ladies room.
IRENE
(confidentially to James)
It’s all set. The ring is in the
middle of the cake.
Hey, don’t be so nervous — she’s
probably going to say “yes”.
Irene disappears. James does more fork-tapping, pulls at his
ear, prods at his hair, applies lip balm and finally checks
his watch.
Laura returns and sits down. A bus boy arrives with two cups
of coffee.
Irene follows right behind with two pieces of cake.
LAURA
Gosh, thanks, but I can’t eat
another thing.
JAMES
Aw, try it. It’s the house
specialty.
IRENE
(reassuringly)
Yeh, take a bite, sweetie.
LAURA
No, no. I’m on a diet. Just bring
me a doggy box, I’ll eat it
tomorrow.
JAMES
But, it’ll dry out.
IRENE
(insistently)
Eat your cake
JAMES
(pleading)
Please, honey.
LAURA
(shaking her head)
Unh, unh.
Irene spears a piece of cake with a fork and pushes it toward
Laura’s mouth.
IRENE
(through clenched teeth)
Eat your fucking cake!
Laura’s eyes widen. She opens her mouth, takes the cake,
chews, grimaces, and finally pulls an engagement ring from
between her lips.
She examines the ring and then looks up quizzically at James.
JAMES
(looking into Laura’s eyes)
Will you marry me, Laura?
LAURA
(tears welling up as she
looks at James)
Yes, I will, just as long as I
don’t have to eat the cake.
Laura sobs, giggles, and joins hands with James across the
table. James slips the ring onto her finger.
Fade to Black
Characters:

James – Jaime
Irene – Ester my sister
Our dear friend, Tim Fitzharris, together with his supportive wife Joy and children , is going to Bohol on January to make an indie film. He is a photographer by profession but he is a film maker by heart. Although this will be his very first film, he has a passion for it and for sure, it will come out really good. So before going to the real filming in Bohol, he’s been practicing shooting some of the scenes of the movie which he also authored. He is the director, author, scriptwriter, et al and his friends are the actors. The script above is one of the scenes which he was able to convince moi, Jaime and my sister to act-out. This is actually my fifth time on his short films. I realize it’s really hard to be a star – all this paparazzi around you while you are filming. Char lang! Haha. Although we don’t know how to act, we obliged to do so because we all love Tim and we support him.

I don’t have the guts yet to post the videos here but who knows one of these days I’ll sleepwalk and post them here and you all gonna laugh at me.

We’re going to shoot this script this Saturday. Wish me luck! :D

By the way, those of you who want to be in Tim’s film please email me. He has been looking for actors, staff and crew. He’ll be filming in Bohol on January to April 2009.
